Choosing Heels Without Breaking the Bank

My tips as a crossdresser for finding heels in larger sizes without spending a fortune, including on Shein, Temu and AliExpress.

A pair of pink high heels on a dark background

When you're a crossdresser and start looking for your first pairs of heels, you quickly realize that it isn't always easy… especially if you wear a larger shoe size. Between styles that simply aren't available in your size, sometimes high prices, and not knowing whether a pair will actually be comfortable, finding the right heels can quickly become a bit of an adventure.

The easiest solution: try them on

The safest option is obviously to try the heels on in a physical store. Some sex shops carry styles designed for larger shoe sizes, allowing you to immediately check whether the size and shape actually fit you.

But that isn't necessarily easy when you're just starting out. Walking into a store, asking for a pair in your size and trying them on can feel a little embarrassing the first few times. On top of that, the available styles can sometimes be quite expensive.

If you want to be certain that a pair fits you, trying them on in a store is still the best solution. But it isn't your only option.

My solution: Chinese shopping sites

Personally, I often use websites such as Shein, Temu or AliExpress. Their prices make it possible to try different styles without necessarily spending a fortune, which is pretty convenient when you enjoy experimenting with different shoes.

Out of the three, Shein is usually where I find the widest selection of heels in larger sizes. Obviously, the selection depends on what's currently available, but it's often the first place I look.

Don't rely only on the shoe size

In my opinion, ordering shoes online based only on the stated shoe size is a bad idea. A size 44 from one brand doesn't necessarily match a size 44 from another.

My technique is therefore to measure my foot directly in centimeters and then check the size guide provided for that particular pair. Generally, I look for a size corresponding to approximately 1 cm more than the actual length of my foot.

For example, if your foot measures 27 cm, I would look for a size listed at around 28 cm. This leaves a little extra room and, personally, this method works quite well most of the time.

It's not an exact science

You should still keep in mind that measurements don't tell you everything. The width of your foot, the shape of the shoe, the height of the heel and even the material can completely change how a pair feels. Two pairs listed with exactly the same length can therefore feel very different once you're actually wearing them.

Even when I'm careful with the size guide, I still occasionally receive a pair that doesn't fit perfectly. Unfortunately, that's one of the risks of ordering shoes without trying them on first. But by measuring my feet and leaving that little bit of extra room, I personally get good results fairly often.

Getting started without spending a fortune

When you're just starting out, I actually think it's a good idea not to immediately spend a large amount of money on a single pair. Your tastes can change surprisingly quickly: you might think you want incredibly high heels, only to discover that you actually prefer something more subtle — or the other way around.

Affordable online stores therefore give you the opportunity to experiment with different styles and heel heights without breaking the bank. Once you know exactly what you like and what fits you, it becomes much easier to invest in a beautiful, higher-quality pair later on.

My method works well for me most of the time, but if you want to minimize the risk of getting the wrong size, nothing can really replace trying the shoes on in person.
